    Nintendo Direct: Games you want!

Octopath Traveler has my immediate interest.
Something about it’s old school style, and kinda unique take on an RPG, following different stories has me intrigued.

    Nintendo Direct: Games you want!

(Finally) playing the (fantastic so far) Xenogears Chronicles 2 made me all the more excited for Octopath Traveler. The pick-up-and-play nature of the console just makes it so damn great for JRPGs.
As for the Direct, I am definitely getting:

    1. Smash
    2. Ocopath

    And I am pondering:

    1. Mario Tennis
    2. Dark Souls (I’ve played some Demon Souls, and finished Bloodborne, but somehow never played Dark Souls)

Also, not in the Direct, but I’m excited for Valkyria Chronicles 4. I adored the first game, and having a game like it on the Switch is super-exciting.

    Nintendo Direct: Games you want!

I’m only a bit into Chapter 2, but I’m (obviously) enjoying it quite a bit so far. The game seems pretty well paced with regards to how it introduces its various complexities of combat, which I find pretty engaging, even this early on. I’m also intrigued by the world and the characters, and I really dig the style. The story also seems to have just the right blend of charm vs. drama, which I’m also very-much into.
It’s also maybe the first JRPG I’ve played that adapts to my life instead of expecting the other way around? Part of that is inherent to the Switch (#allgamesonswitch2018), but also the ability to save almost anywhere is a godsend yet so rare in JRPGs. People mention the portability of the Switch and obviously that’s huge but equally important, I think, is how seamless the wake/suspend stuff is. If I have to stop playing, even if it’s during a cutscene, I can just…stop and pick it up without worrying about losing anything. It makes me sad that I can’t play Persona 5 this way, heh.
